Another weekend with no new genre releases, but after three weeks in a row at the top The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 slipped to the Number 3 slot, beat out by non-genre films New Year's Eve and The Sitter. The PLANET OF THE APES franchise gets the origin treatment in this 20th Century Fox production from director Rupert Wyatt (THE ESCAPIST). The script, written by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, concerns a group of American scientists whose genetic experiments lead to an uprising by a race of intelligent apes that they helped create. James Franco stars, with Freida Pinto and John Lithgow heading up the rest of the cast.

Sci Fi Trailers: See the Prequel to the Doctor Who Christmas Special, Plus Trailers for Two Upcoming Animated Movies

The Doctor Who Holiday special, titled "The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe", will air on BBC and BBC America sometime right around Christmas Day. Here is the one and a half minute prequel to the episode.



The big screen adaptation of Dr. Suess' ecologically-minded The Lorax will hit theaters on March 2, 2012.  Stay tuned to the Sci Fi Scroll site for our 2012 science fiction and fantasy movie preview.

What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Hollywood Reporter: FOX Gives Premiere Dates for Alcatraz and Touch - Touch will have a preview on January 25th at 9 PM EST then continue in its scheduled Monday 9 PM timeslot beginning March 10th. Alcatraz will have a two-hour premiere January 16th at 8 PM EST then take up its scheduled Monday 9 PM timeslot the following week
